May 2, 2007: Panasonic Australia is about to release a new Leica interchangeable lens designed specifically for DSLR cameras that comply with the Four Thirds system standard. The new Leica D Summilux 25mm/F1.4 lens is a bright, large-diameter f/1.4 standard lens with a focal length equivalent to 50mm in 35mm format. Minimum aperture is f/16. Constructed from 10 elements in nine groups, the new lens features one super ED (extra-low dispersion) lens and three ED lenses to ensure sharp and accurate colour reproduction. The large diameter aspherical front lens element ensures images have high resolution, minimal distortion and excellent light distribution from centre to edge of field. When fitted to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 camera, users can take advantage of the aperture and focusing rings on the lens to shoot digitally with all the comfort and convenience of a manual film camera. The new lens uses floating focus to allow close-ups to be captured down to 38 cm from the subject and seven aperture blades provide attractive bokeh (out-of-focus softness). Multiple coatings minimise flare and ghosting. The Leica D Summilux 25mm/F1.4 lens has a filter size of 62mm, an overall length of 75mm and a weight of approximately 510 grams. It will be available from photographic specialists this month at an RRP of $1,799. For details, visit www.panasonic.com.au. |
