August 13, 2009: Three new point-and-shoot models have been added to Panasonic’s Lumix range for release next month.
The new models all feature the new POWER Optical Image Stabiliser (O.I.S) function significantly reduces the effects of camera-shake. They also include High Speed AF for fast, responsive performance plus Panasonic’s user-friendly Intelligent Auto (iA) mode. All the new models can record 1280 x 720p video at a smooth 30 fps in Motion JPEG format. HD component output allows users to watch footage by simply connecting the camera to an HDTV using an optional component cable (DMW-HDC2E).
The 12.1 megapixel DMC-ZR1 (RRP $549), the first model in the Lumix ZR range, features the new lens technology in a Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens with 8x optical zoom and a 25mm ultra-wide angle aspect. The 2.7-inch large Intelligent LCD offers clear viewing and framing of images, even in bright conditions. The DMC-ZR1 will be offered in Black, Silver, Red and Blue.

Also offering 12.1-megapixel resolution, the new DMC-FX65 (RRP $659) has a 25mm Leica DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens with 5x optical zoom and a maximum aperture of f/2.8 that covers a focal length range of 25-125mm in 35mm format. It also features the new lens design with a 0.3mm super thin aspherical lens and an industry-first 0.3mm spherical lens. The FX65 boasts a Venus Engine V image processor plus industry leading High-Speed AF combined with a high-speed start-up of only 1.1 seconds. The shutter release time lag is as short as approximately 0.006 seconds.

Designed for social photographers, the DMC-FP8 (RRP $659) comes in silver, black and pink and features a slim body made possible by folding optics that retract the lens flush with the camera body. New enhancements, such as High-Speed AF, POWER O.I.S. and Face Recognition combine with a 0.95 second start-up time to ensure fast response times. Despite the camera’s small size, a large, 2.7-inch Intelligent LCD screen offers clear image quality for dynamic viewing and playback. A blue LED illuminates the camera’s button controls when in use, adding another elegant element to the design.
