Designed for easy ‘selfie’ shooting, the new 16-megapixel Stylus TG-860 Tough is waterproof to15 metres, shock-proof to 2.1 metres, freeze-proof down to -10℃ and crushproof to 100 kg, making it ideal for many outdoor activities. Its 3-inch LCD monitor has a resolution of 460,000 dots and can be tilted through 180 degrees. The lens covers a 5x optical zoom range, equivalent to 21-105mm in 35mm format and will focus to within one centimetre of subjects for additional versatility. A special front of camera Face button makes shooting ‘selfies’ easy.
The TG-860 also features a new Sportcam mode that captures super-wide point-of-view movies and still photos with recording options tailored for action sports. Full HD movies can be recorded with smooth 50p/60p quality, at high speeds of 120 or 240 fps with lower resolutions for exciting super slow-motion movies. The camera also supports time-lapse recording and includes a Sport Burst photo mode that lets users pre-set the duration of sequential shooting to capture the brief action moments.
In-camera GPS is compatible with the QZSS and GLONASS systems for global data access and to provide location data with high accuracy. Users can pre-load satellite locations to speed up initial satellite acquisition via the free Olympus Image Track smart device app, or the Olympus A-GPS Utility for computers. Built-in Wi-Fi functionality supports smart-phone remote control of the camera plus easy upload of pictures to popular social media sites via the Olympus Image Share app (iOS and Android compatible).
The TG-860 Tough will be offered in Black and Orange from March 2015. Recommended retail price is to be announced. Details will be published on the Olympus website at www.olympus.com.au.
