August 18, 2008: Olympus has released details of its new Mju 1060, a 10-megapixel digicam with a 7x optical zoom lens.
Successor to the Mju 1020, it boasts a larger, 3-inch HyperCrystal LCD monitor. It also comes with an intelligent Auto (iAuto) function that includes built-in scene recognition technology. With iAuto, the camera will automatically apply one of the five most commonly used scene modes – Portrait, Landscape, Night Scene, Macro or Sports mode. Combined with iAuto, built-in Face Detect and Shadow Adjust technologies ensure both human subjects and background scenery are correctly exposed.
Like its predecessor, the Mju 1060 offers Dual IS image stabilisation, which combines sensor-shift with ISO-boosting but you can’t engage these functions separately. The Mju 1060 supports advanced features that provide greater shooting ease in a wide range of situations, including a pre-capture movie recording function, in-camera panorama creation and 20 Scene Program modes. An guide function makes it easy to select the most appropriate mode, and a Comparison Window function lets users preview the effect of various exposure and color settings before shooting.
The slimline body of the Mju 1060 makes it easily pocketable. The 7x optical zoom lens includes a Dual Super Aspherical (DSA) lens element which enables the camera to record high-impact close-ups at all zoom settings. Image data is recorded on an xD-Picture Card but Micro SD memory card recording and playback is supported via MASD-1 Micro SD adapter (included). The Mju 1060 comes in Piano black and silver and will be available in Australia from September 2008 for $449 (RRP). For more information, visit www.olympus.com.au.
