January 22, 2008: Olympus has released details of five new compact digicams that will go on sale locally in February and March.
Scheduled for release in late February is the Mju 1020 (RRP $499), which is claimed as the world’s smallest, slimmest digital compact camera with 7x optical zoom. Weighing only 135 grams and measuring only 25.2 mm thick, the Mju 1020 is available in a stylish enamel black finish. It boasts a 10.1-megapixel CCD imager with Dual Shakeproof CCD-shift camera shake correction and high ISO sensitivity. It also comes with Face Detect & Shadow Adjust Technology and a high-contrast 2.7-inch HyperCrystal II LCD monitor with a wide viewing angle.

Two models have been added to the popular Tough range, the Tough 1030SW (RRP $599) and Tough Lite 850SW (RRP $399). The Tough 1030SW is shockproof to two metres and waterproof to a depth of 10 metres. It has a 3.6x optical zoom lens with a 28mm wide-angle view plus a 10-megapixel imager. It will be available in silver and black. The Tough Lite 850SW is shockproof to 1.5 metres, waterproof to three metres and snowproof to -10 degrees Celsius. With 8-megapixel resolution and a 2.5-inch LCD, it will be available in premium silver, piano black or cassis pink.

The Mju 840 (RRP $399) has an 8-megapixel imager and 5x optical zoom lens. It features a slimline design with a powerful Dual Shakeproof Image Stabiliser and 2.7-inch HyperCrystal LCD plus in-camera panorama recording. Face Detect & Shadow Adjust Technology are also provided.

Due for release in March is the SP-570 UZ (RRP $699), which is claimed as the world’s first 20x optical zoom digicam. Featuring a 10-megapixel CCD sensor and a wide angle of view equivalent to 26mm, the SP-570 UZ supports a full range of manual shooting modes and includes Dual Shakeproof CCD-shift and high ISO blur-reduction systems.
