July 1, 2005: Olympus has released details of its new Zuiko Digital ED 8mm F3.5 fisheye lens, which will go on sale early in 2006.
Designed specifically for digital photography is can be used with all Four Thirds system interchangeable-lens DSLR cameras and provides an angle of view of 180 degrees for dramatic photos with edge-to-edge sharpness. The new lens consists of 10 elements in 6 groups and includes ED lens elements that minimise chromatic aberrations, a circular aperture diaphragm for natural-looking background blur and multi-coating to reduce flaring and ghosting. The dust- and splash-resistant design lets users shoot in a wide range of weather conditions.
The new lens can focus down to13.5 cm from a subject for dramatic wide-angle macro shots. It can also be used with the PT-EO1 and PPO-E04 underwater housing and port for underwater photography. The lens has a diameter of 79 mm and is 78 mm long. It weighs 455 grams. Pricing details will be provided closer to the actual release date.
