Olympus will exhibit a concept mock-up of a new interchangeable-lens type digital camera based on the Micro Four Thirds standard at Photokina, which opens in Cologne, Germany, tomorrow.

 

September 22, 2008: Olympus will exhibit a concept mock-up of a new interchangeable-lens type digital camera based on the Micro Four Thirds standard at Photokina, which opens in Cologne, Germany, tomorrow.
The camera currently in development will be the first Olympus camera to comply with the Micro Four Thirds System standard. Interchangeable-lenses that comply with the standard are also under development. Users will also be able to mount existing Four Thirds System wide-angle, telephoto, and macro lenses on Micro Four Thirds System bodies via an adapter. Product name, availability and retail pricing are yet to be announced.
Olympus has also announced the development of a new E-System interchangeable-lens digital SLR, which complies with the Four Thirds System. To be positioned between the E-520 and E-3, this model is being developed as an advanced amateur camera. Features include a high-speed AF system using 11-points-full twin cross sensor and the built-in image stabilisation mechanism with a correction effect up to 5 EV steps. Other highlights include a new and updated feature replacing the splash and dust-proof attributes of the E-3. The camera will be exhibited as a reference product at Photokina 2008.
