Giving a hint of things to come at Photokina next month, Olympus Europe has released details of the new Camedia C-5050 Zoom digital camera (right). Featuring a 5.26 megapixel 1/1.8-inch CCD sensor (5 megapixels effective) and fast f1.8 – 2.6 3x optical zoom lens (35-105 mm equivalent), the new model comes with a tilting 1.8-inch LCD monitor with a resolution of 114,000 pixels and claims to be compatible with xD-Picture Card, SmartMedia, Compact Flash and Microdrive (1GB) media.

Featuring a 5.26 megapixel 1/1.8-inch CCD sensor (5 megapixels effective) and fast f1.8 – 2.6 3x optical zoom lens (35-105 mm equivalent), the new model comes with a tilting 1.8-inch LCD monitor with a resolution of 114,000 pixels and claims to be compatible with xD-Picture Card, SmartMedia, Compact Flash and Microdrive (1GB) media. Other features include ESP (Electro Selective Pattern) light metering, a TTL iESP (intelligent Electro Selective Pattern) contrast detection focusing system, adjustable aperture and shutter speed settings and automatic and manual controls over focus and white balance (including four fluorescent settings). The C-5050 also has five pre-set scene program modes, including sport, landscape and portrait and features an auto bracketing function for fine-tuning exposures. A new image processing engine supports two continuous shooting speeds: either 11 images at 1.7 frames per second, or 4 shots at a fast 3.3 frames per second. Video clips are recorded in QuickTime Motion JPEG format and the camera is fitted with Audio / Video and USB AutoConnect interfaces. This model is due for release in November at an RRP of $1,799. Olympus has also announced a 4-megapixel model, the Camedia C-4000 Zoom (right), which features a bright f2.8 high-quality 3x zoom lens (equivalent to 32-96mm) and comes with a 16 MB SmartMedia card. RRP for this model is $1,199.
