June 27, 2007: Olympus has released details of a new super-telephoto Zuiko Digital ED 70-300mm f/4.0-f/5.6 lens with a compact, lightweight design that is ideal for travel and particularly suitable for the new E-510 camera.
The new lens provides a focal length range equivalent to 140-600mm on a 35mm camera and is ideal for shooting distant scenes, wildlife, sports and children at play. It also boasts a close-focusing limit of 0.96 metres and a maximum image magnification of 0.5x, which allows it to be used for taking macro shots. The Zuiko Digital ED 70-300mm lens weighs only 620 grams and measures 127 mm long, with a diameter of 80 mm, which is very compact for such a long-range optic. It will be compatible with all E-System and Four-Thirds system cameras.
