July 20, 2009: With the impending release of its new Mju Tough 6010 model, Olympus Australia brings the total number of cameras in its ‘Tough’ range to 11.
Scheduled for release in Australia in September 2009, the Mju Tough 6010 is waterproof to a depth of three metres, shockproof from heights up to 1.5 metres and snow-proof at temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius. The new model comes with a 12-megapixel (effective) CCD sensor and Olympus-original TruePic III image processing engine. It will be available in new season colours of red, dark grey and silver. Pricign has still to be determined.
A key feature of the new model is a new Magic Filter, which makes it easy for users to create photographic effects without the need for special lenses, add-on filters or complex image processing techniques. Derived from the Art Filter technology in the E-30, E-620 digital SLR cameras and new Pen E-P1 camera, it offers four filter effects:
– Pop, which enhances colours to provide vivid saturation;
– Pin Hole, which re-creates the peripheral vignetting and warm tones of photos taken with a toy camera;
– Sketch, which transforms the photograph into a lien drawing and
– Fish-eye, which simulates the distortion from a fish-eye lens.
The Mju Tough 6010 sports a 2.7-inch HyperCrystal III LCD with anti-reflection coating plus a wide angle of view in excess of 160 degrees. The surface of this display is protected against reflections, moisture and scratches by a special Triple Coating, which is also water-repellent. The Mju Tough 6010 offers the innovative Tap Control feature only found on Olympus Tough series cameras. With a built in accelerometer, users can take a photo and play it back simply by tapping the top or sides of the camera body or the surface of the LCD monitor. Unlike previous models, the Mju Tough 6010 records images on Micro SD memory cards with playback supported via the supplied MASD-1 Micro SD adapter. other features include internal battery charging, Perfect Shot Preview, in-camera panorama mode with an on-screen guide to assist shot composition and a Super Macro LED to help prevent blurring and ensure vivid colour reproduction at close range.
