January 7, 2009: Due for release on 2 March, the latest additions to the Olympus Mju Tough Series of compact digital cameras feature a waterproof, shockproof and snowproof design that assures reliable, high-quality shooting under challenging conditions.
The top-of-the-line Mju Tough 8000, is the eighth Tough model to be released. It is shockproof to 2 metres, waterproof to a depth of 10 metres, crushproof to 100 kg and snowproof to -10 degrees Celsius. Offered in silver and black, the Mju Tough 8000 features a12-megapixel CCD sensor and TruePic III image processing. A new underwater sensor that lets the camera know when it is immersed underwater. LCD brightness is automatically optimised for underwater conditions and the display gives underwater scene modes (Underwater Snapshot, Underwater Wide 1, Underwater Wide 2 and Underwater Macro) priority over other scene modes. An alarm alerts the diver when immersion depth exceeds seven metres to prevent damage to the camera.

Positioned just below the Mju Tough 8000, the 10-megapixel Mju Tough 6000 is waterproof to three metres, shockproof to 1.5 metres and snowproof to -10 degrees Celsius. Offered in blue, white and orange, it sports a wide-angle 28mm5 zoom lens with 3.6x optical zoom.
Both models are equipped with 2.7-inch HyperCrystal III LCD panels that have a high brightness range, wide viewing angle and anti-reflection coating. They also feature a shockproof-compatible Dual Shakeproof CCD-shift image stabilisation function and Olympus’s Tap Control user interface. Other features include an Intelligent Auto mode, in-camera panorama stitching, Smile Shot and Beauty modes and comparison window previews of various camera settings before picture is taken.
Pricing for both models has yet to be determined. For more information, visit www.olympus.com.au.
