August 31, 2011: Scheduled for local release on 8 September is Nikon’s first shockproof, waterproof and freeze-proof camera, the AW100.
Featuring a 6.16 x 4.62 mm 16-megapixel (effective) BSI CMOS sensor and 5x optical zoom lens (28-140mm in 35mm format), the AW100 is waterproof to approximately 10 meters, shockproof to approximately 1.5 meters and built to withstand temperatures as low as -10 degrees C. The slim body will be offered in four colours: orange, blue, black and camouflage. Features include a new Action Control button on the side of the camera that makes it easier to change settings when wearing gloves underwater or in freezing conditions.
Users simply press this button then shake the camera to make the adjustment.
When the Underwater scene mode is enabled, either manually or automatically in Easy Auto mode, white balance is automatically adjusted to ensure natural-looking colour rendition. The camera is also equipped with a high-performance GPS and electronic compass and includes a log function for tracking and recording camera movement when the camera is switched off. Full-HD movies can be recorded by simply pressing the movie-record button on the back of the camera and optical zoom can be used during movie recording.
Pricing has still to be determined. For more information, visit http://mynikonlife.com.au/.
