April 11, 2008: Nikon has released details of three new Coolpix digicams that are scheduled to go on sale in Australia next month. The 10-megapixel Coolpix P80 (RRP $599.00) features an 18x Zoom-Nikkor lens that covers focal lengths equivalent to 27-486mm in 35mm format. It includes VR optical image stabilisation and offers P, A, S and M shooting modes plus a new Sport Continuous mode that lets users capture up to 30 consecutive images at four, six or 13 frames/second.

In-camera image processing features include Red-Eye Fix, D-Lighting and Face-Priority AF. D-Lighting can also be applied in playback mode to compensate for backlighting or low flash levels. Nikon’s Face-Priority AF automatically locates and focuses on one person’s face or up to 12 human faces within one frame. Exposure and flash output are set automatically. The new Coolpix S52 and S52c models have 9.0-megapixel resolution (effective) and optically-stabilised 3x Zoom-Nikkor lenses that cover a focal length range equivalent to 38-114mm in 35mm format. Both models have 3-inch LCD screens and an Auto ISO control, which automatically selects the optimal sensitivity for normal shooting from between ISO 100 and ISO 800, and boosts it up to ISO 2000 in High-Sensitivity mode. In-Camera Red-Eye Fix and D-Lighting are also included.

The Wi-Fi-enabled Coolpix S52c (RRP $449.00) can email images directly via through its Wi-Fi connection. The S52c has a Picture Mail button that allows users to upload images to supports Nikon’s new my Picturetown server for storing and sharing. The Coolpix S52 (RRP $399.00) comes with a silver body, while the Coolpix S52c has a gloss silver finish. All three cameras are supplied with Nikon’s Coolpix Software Suite for organising, editing and sharing photos. They also include PictBridge support and are compatible with SD/SDHC cards.
