February 3, 2009: Nikon has released details of seven new Coolpix models that are scheduled for release between mid-February and early March.
All the new models come with Nikkor quality lenses and Nikon’s EXPEED image processors. New features across the line-up include; Smart Portrait System, which ensures a bright smile being captured without blinking; Enhanced Face-priority Auto Focus, which can detect up to 12 faces-per-image and adjusts brightness on the subject’s face to ensure well-balanced exposure of a whole picture; and Scene Auto Selector which automatically selects the most appropriate mode according to a picture-taking situation.
Leading the range is the 12.2-megapixel Coolpix P90, which features a 24x Zoom-Nikkor lens that covers a focal range of 26mm to 624mm (35mm equivalent). Its vari-angle 3-inch LCD can be tilted through 90 degrees upward or 45 degrees downward for framing flexibility. Offering P, A,M S and M shooting modes as well as full-auto operation and two user-defined settings (U1/U2), the P90 has a Sport Continuous mode that records up to 45 shots at 15 frames/second and a new Pre-shooting Cache that will store up to 10 frames immediately prior to releasing the shutter.
