Nikon has released details of its latest CSC, the Nikon 1 J4, along with a new AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR zoom lens that is ideal for travellers.

The J4 will be offered in white only. It features a 12.8 x 9.6 mm 18.4-megapixel super high speed CMOS sensor and EXPEED 4a image processor plus a 3-inch 1,037,000-dot Touch Screen monitor. The J4 has also been designed without an Optical Low Pass Filter (OLPF). The Hybrid AF boasts 171 autofocus points and the new camera supports high-speed continuous shooting at approximately 20 fps with continuous autofocusing and Full 1080/60p HD video recording.
Still pictures can be captured during movie recordings and the J4 comes with built-in Wi-Fi that enables images and movie clips to be sent directly from the camera to a smart-phone or tablet once the free Nikon Wireless Mobile Utility app (available at the App Store and Google Play) is installed. Wireless transfer of videos is available only on Android OS.
Images are stored on a Micro-SD memory card and the camera includes a new Creative Palette function based upon an intelligent touch screen system. Users can make changes such as image colour, brightness and saturation with a simple movement of the finger in a ring-like motion. Other features include Motion Snapshot, Best Moment Capture and Creative Modes. The Nikon 1 J4 is due to go on sale on 15 May 2014 with pricing set by individual re-sellers. The AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR is a compact 16.7x high-power zoom covering angles of view equivalent to a 27-450mm lens in 35mm format. It comes with a Vibration Reduction (VR) function that provides camera shake compensation of up to 4.0-stops increase in shutter speed and is equipped with a Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for extremely quiet autofocusing.
ED glass and aspherical lens elements are included in the optical design to minimise common aberrations. This lens can focus to within 48 cm of a subject and is compact and lightweight with a maximum diameter of 78.5 mm, length of 99 mm and weight of 550 grams.
