November 21, 2007: Nikon will release a new 3x zoom lens that will offer Vibration Reduction and a Silent Wave Motor.
Covering a range of 18-55mm (27-82.5mm in 35mm format) the new AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens is designed for cameras with Nikon’s DX (APS-C) image sensors. Consisting of 11 elements in eight groups, the new lens has a hybrid aspherical lens element to minimise lens aberrations. Nano Crystal coating eliminates internal lens element reflections across a wide range of wavelengths and minimises the effects of flare and ghosting.
The new lens will focus to 28 cm throughout the zoom range, giving a maximum reproduction ratio of 1/3.2. Internal focusing allows use of polarisers and graduated filters. Filter thread diameter is 52mm and the lens is supplied with a snap-on lens cap but no lens hood. Vibration Reduction enables sharper pictures while shooting at shutter speeds up to three stops slower than would otherwise be possible.
The AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens will initially be supplied with the Nikon D80 twin lens kit (which includes the VR 55-200mm lens) for an RRP of $2,099. As a stand-alone lens it will sell for $369 (RRP). For more information, visit www.nikon.com.au.
