The Nikon Coolpix 5400 has a CCD sensor with 5.1 effective megapixels and a powerful 4x Nikon precision optical zoom lens with a focal length equivalent to 28-116mm in 35mm format. Weighing less than 400 grams with battery and CF card, it offers a full range of exposure modes and shooting parameters, which are accessed via a new Mode Dial that works in conjunction with the Command Dial and the Centre-Click Multi-selector to simplify camera usage.
Four exposure modes re provided: Programmed Auto [P], Shutter-Priority Auto [S], Aperture-Priority Auto [A] and Manual [M] plus a Full Auto setting and 15 selectable Scene Modes that set the exposure parameters to match common pictorial situations. The Coolpix 5400 also features some advanced digital controls, including a new Auto Exposure-Best Shot Selector mode, Noise Reduction mode, Saturation Control and White Balance Bracketing. Other capture settings include movies with audio and a new Time-Lapse Movie Mode.
The lightweight magnesium alloy body contains a 1.5-inch vari-angle LCD monitor and real-image zoom viewfinder with diopter adjustment. The camera is also compatible with a host of optional accessories, including wide-angle, telephoto and fisheye converters plus a number of Nikon’s powerful external Speedlight flash units.
The Nikon Coolpix 5400 is expected to retail for about $1,599.00 (inc. GST). It is due for release in late June and early July 2003. Details can be found at www.maxwell.com.au.
