March 24, 2009: Tamron’s new SP AF10-24mm F/3.5-4.5 Di II LD Aspherical (IF) is now available in Australia at an RRP of $899.

Designed for Canon and Nikon digital SLRs with APS-C sized image sensors, the new lens covers an equivalent focal length range of 15mm ultra wide-angle to 36mm in 35mm format on Nikon DSLRs or 16-38.4mm on Canon DSLRs. Pentax and Sony mount models will arrive in mid 2009.

The new zoom lens uses a high-precision, large-aperture glass-moulded aspherical lens element and three hybrid aspherical elements to minimise spherical aberration, coma, and distortion. In addition, a pair of LD (Low Dispersion) glass elements and an HID (High-refractive Index) glass element together compensate for on-axis and lateral chromatic aberrations. Multi-layer coatings have been included on external and internal optical surfaces to minimise flare and ghosting and the lens is optimised to produce high optical quality from the centre to the periphery.

Close focusing is available to 24 cm across the zoom range, giving a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5.1 (at 24mm). A petal-shaped lens hood is included as a standard accessory. The new lens measures 86.5 mm in length and has a diameter of 83.2 mm. It weighs only 406 grams and accepts 77 mm filters.
