June 28, 2005: Tamron’s latest SP AF11-18mm F/4.5-5.6 Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) lens has been designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras that use the popular APS-C size image sensors.
The 11-18mm lens covers a 35mm camera focal length equivalent to 17-28mm Its optical design uses one element each of HID (High Index/High Dispersion glass) and LD (Low Dispersion) glass to minimize on-axis and lateral chromatic aberrations. A high-precision, glass-moulded aspherical element and two hybrid aspherical elements are included to compensate for spherical and chromatic aberrations and distortion, giving the new lens outstanding optical performance.
The zoom system has been constructed to channel light rays reaching the camera sensor, from the centre to the periphery, thereby reducing lens flare from internal reflection and peripheral light fall off is minimised, making the image field uniformly bright from the centre to the periphery. Internal Surface Coatings are used to reduce ghosting and flare and a flower-shaped lens hood is included as a standard accessory.
The new lens will be available in Canon AF-D Minolta AF-D and Nikon AF-D versions from August at an RRP of $1099. Full details can be found at www.maxwell.com.au.
