Tamron’s SP AF17-35mm F/2.
Tamron’s SP AF17-35mm F/2.8-4 Di LD Aspherical [IF] lens has been designed for use with both film and digital SLR cameras. Featuring Di (‘Digitally Integrated Design’) technology, it provides a ‘super wide’ focal length that is useful for film-based SLR photography and acts as wide-to-standard zoom – equivalent to 28-55mm – for interchangeable digital SLRs with the most common 1.5x focal length multiplier. The new lens maintains a minimum focusing distance of 30cm throughout its zoom range and a fast maximum aperture of f2.8 at the 17mm setting. Its top magnification ratio is 1:5.4 (on a 35mm camera). The lens consists of 14 elements in 11 groups and includes a large compound aspherical element to minimise rectilinear distortion and spherical aberration, plus three LD elements to facilitate light transmission. It is supplied with a flower-shaped lens hood that minimises flare in shots taken in bright lighting. IT is available now in Nikon and Canon mounts, with Minolta and Pentax versions following. Expected retail price is around $948. For more information, go to www.maxwell.com.au.
