New Storage Solutions from WD

September 30, 2009: WD has released two new external hard disk drive (HDD) products that will suit digital photographers by catering for different requirements.
The new My Passport Essential and My Passport for Mac provide ultra-portable external storage solutions that are smaller, smarter and more secure than previous models. Equipped with hardware-based encryption, the new drives feature WD’s new WD SmartWare software that provides visual backup displays showing content in categories plus backup progress, automatic continuous backup whenever a file is changed or a new file is added and customisable data backup that allows users to set drive security, run diagnostics and manage the power settings from the WD SmartWare control centre.

The new My Passport Essential and My Passport for Mac drives are offered in capacities ranging from 320GB to 1TB and come in a range of colours including Pacific Blue, Real Red, Cool Silver, Midnight Black and Arctic White. Prices range from $139 for a 320GB My Passport Essential drive to $379 for a 1TB My Passport Essential SE drive.
WD has also extended its My Book range with the release of the smaller, sleeker My Book Essential and My Book for Mac desktop external hard drives. Featuring the same WD SmartWare software and hardware-based encryption, the new drives are offered in capacities ranging from 500GB to 2TB. RRPs range from $199 for the 1GB drives to $449 for the 2GB drives.
