The new lighting system covers the FA-WRC1M wireless radio commander as well as the FA-WRR1 wireless radio receiver. Together they provide a totally portable solution that will suit people like wedding photographers who are often working at locations where it is cumbersome to transport studio lighting.

With a maximum range of 30 metres, the system will allow photographers to choose between TTL, Manual or Group modes and control up to 15 separate flash units   in up to 5 groups of flashes.

It will be capable of flash sync speeds of up to 1/250 second with high speed sync (HSS) available at all shutter speeds. It will also support flash level control over 25 steps (1/1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32, 1/64, 1/128, 1/256) in 1/3 EV step increments. Equipped with a Multi/Micro USB port, it is dust and moisture resistant for use in a variety of conditions.

No RRP is available for the system yet but the product is listed on Sony’s Australian website as ‘available soon’.

Sony has also announced a new fast full-frame standard lens for the ?-series, the Planar T* FE 50mm F1.4 ZA (model SEL50F14Z), which is dust and moisture resistant.

Featuring a large f/1.4 maximum aperture, this lens is ideal for low light photography and subjects that require a shallow depth of field. Its optical design comprises 12 elements in 9 groups and an  11-blade aperture design that can produce attractive bokeh. Zeiss T* coating minimises flare and ghosting.

Thanks to a ring drive SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor) system, the new lens also supports fast, near silent and precise focus and versatile control for stills and movies. The lens also features an aperture ring with an adjustable ON/OFF switch, an AF/MF focus mode switch.

With a diameter of  83.5 mm and a length of 108 mm, the new lens weighs 778 grams and comes with a lens hood (ALC-SH143), front and rear caps and a soft carrying case. No RRP is available for the system yet but the product is listed on Sony’s Australian website as ‘available soon’.
