Sony has added to their impressive list of E-mount lenses with the introduction of a 135mm f/1.8 full-frame, tele prime lens (model SEL135F18GM).

Sony 135mm f/1.8 G Master Prime Lens (model SEL135F18GM)

Sony claims the FE 135mm f/1.8 GM lens will deliver “exceptionally high resolution and exquisite bokeh, two qualities that are signature attributes of Sony’s flagship G Master brand. The new lens combines rapid autofocus (AF) acquisition with a lightweight, portable design and a variety of professional functions”.

The optical design places XA (extreme aspherical) and Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements in the front group to suppress common telephoto lens aberrations. The Super ED element and ED glass element are positioned to compensate for axial chromatic aberration, to minimize colour fringing and maximise overall resolution. For clarity, Sony’s Nano AR Coating is applied to reduce flare and ghosting.

For bokeh, an 11-bladed circular aperture mechanism contributes to a natural background defocus, and a dual-autofocus has improved close-up capability.

For speed, the FE 135mm f/1.8 GM has four XD linear motors that provide fast AF tracking. A control algorithm helps to maximise control response and quiet, low-vibration AF.

Controls include an aperture ring, a focus ring with Linear Response MF, a focus range limiter switch, two customisable focus hold buttons, and a focus-mode switch.

The new lens weighs 950g.

Price is expected to be approx AU$3,230 and available from April.

Sony has also announced a new line-up of Circular Polarising Filters. The new filters include models for lens diameters 49mm, 55mm, 62mm, 67mm, 72mm, 77mm and 82mm.
