October 8, 2008: Trellis Management Co. will unveil a new raw file format at the upcoming PDN PhotoPlus International Conference + Expo in New York, which opens on 23 October.
Claimed as the only raw file format that eliminates compatibility issues, XDepth Raw can function both as a regular JPEG and as a raw image. XDepth Raw images are recognised as Jpeg files by any software application on virtually every operating system and can be previewed and used as regular JPEGs. When opened with XDepth-enabled software, these files will be recognised and loaded as raw image files. The new format uses a 7:1 compression ratio compared to the uncompressed raw file and can reduce a 12MB Raw image to around 3MB. On average, photographers can shoot four times more pictures without sacrificing image quality.
Proprietary compressions technology allows images to be reconstructed at high bit depth with minimal artefacts. Users can select compression levels to suit their requirements.

Images can also be converted to other raw file formats, such as Adobe DNG or processed and saved as 16-bit TIFF files or 32-bit High Dynamic Range (HDR) files, the latter capable of storing up to 72 bits/pixel. It also allows custom data to be included and claims to accommodate new features with ease. For more information, visit www.raw.xdepth.com.
