May 21, 2005: Victorian distributor, Exeltek Solutions will release a new range of affordable portable storage devices next month, under the brand name CompactDrive PD70X .
Designed to accommodate 2.5-inch hard disk drives, they are available as enclosure only or with capacities from 30-80 GB. Each CompactDrive PD70X model measures 135 x 83 x 33 mm and has a slot for CompactFlash/Microdrive cards. Support is also provided for all other major card types (in some cases via adapter). It is compatible with the FAT12, FAT 16 and FAT32 file systems and works with Windows, Mac OS and Linux operating systems. The CompactDrive PD70X offers a back-up speed of 16 MB/second, which means transferring the contents of a 1 GB card in less than two minutes. A Hi-Speed USB 2.0 connection ensures fast downloading to a computer. It is powered by four AA NiMH batteries and is supplied with an AC adapter, USB 2.0 cable and carrying case.
The PD70X’s LCD display provides status information on the device’s card capacity, HDD capacity, total files (number and size), battery information and recharging status. The supplied ‘intelligent’ fast charger in the PD70X can fully charge a set of 2000mAh batteries in three hours. Once charged, the batteries provide two hours of stand-alone operation or up to three hours when downloading files via the USB cable. This is roughly equivalent to 50 GB. Recommended retail pricing is as follows:
– PD70X with No HDD $190
– PD70X with 30GB HDD $299
– PD70X with 40GB HDD $319
– PD70X with 60GB HDD $349
