Sept. 1, 2009: Media Publishing, publisher of this website and enthusiast magazine Photo Review Australia, is this week launching a new insiders’ website for the imaging industry called Photo Counterwww.photocounter.com.au.

The new website is targeted specifically at the staff and management working behind photo counters all around Australia, whether they are in specialist stores, CE and mass merchant channels, or online.

The website will be complemented by a free weekly emailed newsletter and RSS feeds, and harnesses the resources of Australia’s most popular photo enthusiast website – this one!

‘Everyone who works retailing photographic products and services around Australia all need timely and accurate information to do their job as well as they possibly can,’ said Photo Counter editor and co-publisher, Keith Shipton.

Shipton has worked as a journalist in the photo industry for 15 years, with a further 12 years in corporate affairs at Kodak Australasia.

‘Compared to many other retail categories, digital imaging is technologically complex. Well-informed retail staff will be able to ensure customers walk out of the store with exactly the right product or service for their needs,’ he explained, ‘and hopefully a few useful accessories to increase their enjoyment of photography even further!

‘Our guiding criterion when considering what to run in Photo Counter will be ‘does this help retail management and staff do their job?’ So new product and service news will always get priority.’

In addition, the Product Reviews section draws on the excellent work of Photo Review technical editor, Margaret Brown, providing an objective assessment of just about every new camera released in Australia, along with reviews of other key photo product releases.

Photo Counter will also look at broader retailing issues as they arise, such as shopping centre leases, employment, bank fees and charges and trade practices matters.

The website will feature regular contributions from photo industry leaders, and reader input is encouraged. A ‘Best Shots’ gallery will showcase photographic talent within the industry.

‘Our goal is to create a friendly, useful site which industry insiders will want to visit regularly. Though you wouldn’t know it, there’s no rule that says an industry website can’t be fun to read!’ he said.

Photo Review readers who work in the industry, or simply fancy having an insider’s perspective on the imaging business, are most welcome to register for the weekly Photo Counter email newsletter, which will be sent out every Thursday. Go to www.photocounter.com.au
