March 21, 2006: Pixel Place has added several new calibration cards to its Perfect-Pixs range, giving digital photographers an affordable way to obtain better images.
As well as the original three-card kit, which contains Zone, Colour Patches and White Balance references, photographers can now purchase a Colour Checker Target Card ($US5.95) containing reference patches of red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, yellow, black and white. An alternative colour reference is the Colour Checker Grey Zone Reference Card, which has 30 patches covering the standard RGBCMYK and white patches plus difficult-to-reproduce colours like skin tones, aqua, olive green, ochre, maroon plus four shades of grey. This card sells for $US19.95.
New additions to the grey card line-up include a three-tone Mini Grey card with white, black and ‘grey-for-digital’ patches, which is useful for exposure calibration and detecting colour shifts. This card sells for $US4.25. There’s also a Digital Target Grey Card ($US7.95), which has reference zones of black, white and digital grey plus four cross-hair targets to aid focusing – and capture accuracy.

Pixel Place is also offering a Focus Chart and Grid Target (US $8.95) that can be used for checking autofocus functioning and accuracy as well as for providing a focus point with difficult-to-focus subjects. Designed by an educator, photographer and master digital printmaker, all Perfect-Pixs cards are printed on a precise, matte finish, 1mm-thick, rigid image-board using archival inks. They come in convenient sizes and will last for many years without fading or colour shifts.
