Pentax has a new water-resistant (JIS Class 7 equivalent) digital camera, the Optio 33WR, which combines a 3.2-megapixel sensor with a 2.8x optical zoom (focal length equivalent to 37-104mm in 35mm format). The camera’s body is sealed to provide protection against rain, snow and dust but is not totally immersible. The lens, which is also designed for water resistance, operates to its full zoom range without protruding from the camera body. Designed for ease of use, the Optio 33WR offers 12 selectable shooting modes – including Panorama Assist – plus a Movie setting that captures video clips at 320 x 240 or 160 x 120 pixel resolution without sound. Ten digital filter effects are provided and the built-in flash fires automatically in low-light and backlit conditions. Users can also adjust image sharpness, contrast and saturation in-camera and access a histogram display both during shooting and at playback, The Optio 33WR can be powered by AA alkaline or CR-V3 lithium batteries. It is expected to retail for $699. Full details can be found at www.crkennedy.com.au.
