Olympus has announced two new professional wide-angle lenses: the M.Zuiko Digital ED 8mm f1.8 PRO, claimed to be the world’s brightest fisheye lens; and the M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm f2.8 PRO zoom, a professional-grade ultra-wide zoom with a fast constant aperture.

The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 8mm f1.8 PRO lens(above) is aimed at photographers with an interest in astronomy, underwater, landscape and professional-imaging.
Its optical design minimises comatic and chromatic aberrations at large apertures ““ optical issues especially critical in wide field astro-imaging. The lens elements include Olympus’ proprietary Super HR (Super High Refractive) and Super ED (Super Extra-Low Dispersion) glass. It is compact and weighs 315g.
M.Zuiko Digital ED 8mm f1.8 PRO main features are:
– 16mm fisheye
– “world’s fastest” F1.8 aperture
– 17 elements in 15 groups design that fully minimises comatic and chromatic aberrations
– 3x Super ED, 2x ED, Super HR, HR and ASPH elements
– ZERO high performance multi-coating
– 2.5 cm minimum focus distance
– Astro, underwater, nature and professional fisheye imaging applications
– Dust, Freeze and Splashproof

The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm f2.8 PRO ultra-wide lens(above) has a viewing angle of 14-28mm, weighs 534g, and is aimed at the professional and enthusiast with an interest in reportage, sport, landscape, nature and architecture.
Its optical design features high performance optical materials that include DSA (Dual Super Aspheric), EDA (Extra-Low Dispersion Aspheric) and three Super ED elements. Distortion is minimal at all zoom settings. High optical quality at wide apertures for handheld when combined with an Olympus camera body that has 5-Axis Image Stabilisation, such as the professional OM-D E-M1 and the E-M5 Mark II.
M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm f2.8 PRO is part of a ‘professional trio’ of fast Zuiko f2.8 zooms with popular focal lengths for enthusiasts and professional photographers – their combined focal length range from 14-300mm*.
M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm f2.8 PRO main features are:
– 14-28mm ultra-wide angle
– Fast F2.8 constant aperture
– 14 elements in 11 groups
– 2x EDA, 1x DSA, 3x Super ED high performance elements
– ZERO high performance multi-coating
– 7.5 cm minimum focus distance
– Reportage, landscape, nature and architecture applications
– Dust, Freeze and Splashproof
The M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm f2.8 PRO and the M.Zuiko Digital ED 8mm f1.8 PRO are both environmentally-sealed against dust, water and the freezing cold (to minus ten degrees Celsius). Olympus ZERO multicoating (Zuiko Extra-low Reflectance Optical) is applied on all lens surfaces of both lenses to effectively suppress ghosting and flare.
Both lenses are expected to be available in late June, prices to be announced.
