Nikon Australia has announced two new professional lens products – the AF-S Nikkor 400mm f/2.8E FL ED VR, and AF-S Teleconverter TC-14E III.

The AF-S Nikkor 400MM f/2.8E FL ED VR is designed for Nikon full-frame cameras and features fluorite lens elements, ED lens elements, and Nano Crystal Coat for superior optical performance. In addition to the fluorite lens elements, components made of magnesium alloy are fitted to the barrel to make the lens lighter (3.8Kg!), which will appeal to sports and press photographers.
The newly designed optical formula features 16 elements in 12 groups, including two fluorite and two ED lens elements. Designed to increase durability and boasting a professional-grade dust and moisture resistant construction, the fluorine coat applied to the front lens element effectively repels water, dust, and dirt without compromising image quality.
Other features:
– Equipped with an electro-magnetic aperture mechanism for more stable auto-exposure with high-speed continuous shooting;
– Equipped with a SPORT vibration reduction (VR) function for camera shake compensation equivalent to a 4.0- stop increase in shutter speed;
– A tripod collar ring with bearings; AF-S Teleconverter TC-14E III.

The AF-S Teleconverter TC-14E III is a 1.4x teleconverter ‘enabling rendering performance close to that of the master lens with shooting at maximum aperture’. (According to the Nikon media release.)
It has a smaller build and improved ergonomics compared to the converter it replaces and will extend the reach of the new Nikkor 400mm f/2.8 to 560mm.
Both new products will be available from 28 August.
US$11,995 for the 400mm and US$499 for the teleconverter, Australian pricing currently unavailable.
