The CES Show also saw the announcement by Nikon of two new Coolpix S-series models, the S6500 and the S2700, which are targeted at snapshooters.

The S6500 features a 16-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor and 12x optical zoom lens covering the equivalent of 25-300mm in 35mm format. It comes with a variety of in-camera pre-sets, including scene modes and five new Glamour Retouch effects, among them Brighten Faces and Whiten Teeth. The S6500 features Smile Timer with Continuous Shooting, where the camera captures and saves up to five images at a time. It also features BSS, which captures up to five images whilst saving the image captured the best smile. Built-in Wi-Fi enables users to transfer images and movies to smart-phones and tablets and upload them to social network sites. (This function requires installing the Wireless Mobile Adapter Utility app to the smart device prior to use.)

The Coolpix S2700 features a 6x optical zoom lens that can focus to 5 cm and comes with extensive automatic shooting functions, including a Scene Auto Selector mode that automatically selects the optimal camera settings for a detected type of scene. The camera also supports a Special Effects menu for adjustments to image colour and tone plus a range of Filter Effects that can be applied post-capture.
This model is offered in five body colours ““ silver, black, red, purple and blue ““ as well as Decorative Pink and Decorative Purple models, which feature flower motifs on the front surface. Details of both models can be found at http://mynikonlife.com.au/gear/digital-compact-cameras/.
