April 21, 2005: Nikon will release two new DX zoom lenses in Australia in mid-July.
The AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f3.5-5.6G ED is an ultra-compact, lightweight standard zoom lens with a 3x zoom range. Covering the popular 18-55mm focal length range it has a picture angle equivalent to a 27-82.5mm lens in 35mm format when fitted to a Nikon DSLR camera. Designed specifically for digital use, this lens is not compatible with 35mm SLR cameras. Sporting one ED glass element and one hybrid aspherical lens element, the AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED measures 69 x 74mm and weighs approximately 210g.
A useful partner to the 18-55mm lens is the AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f4-5.6G ED. Designed for use with Nikon DSLR cameras, it measures only 68 x 79mm and weighs 255g. Features include a built-in compact SWM (Silent Wave Motor) that supports quiet autofocus performance and the use of ED glass elements to minimise chromatic aberration and other forms of distortion.
Both lenses will be released in two colours – black and silver – to match the colour options of the Nikon D50, which goes on sale at roughly the same time. Local pricing is yet to be confirmed. For more information visit www.maxwell.com.au.
