Canon has unveiled a new macro lens, the EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM, the first of its kind with built-in Macro Lite Technology.

Designed to provide true macro 1:1 reproduction, the new lens can focus to within 30 mm of its front element and is ideal for photographing jewellery, food or crafts. Its built-in Macro Lite provides flexible lighting options, allowing photographers to alternate between two lights located on each side of the lens, or both at the same time. The strength of the lighting can be adjusted by simply pressing a button, while an attachable lens hood minimises shadows cast onto the subject by the lens, as well as reflections of the lens cast by the subject.
The new lens includes an Optical Image Stabilizer with Hybrid IS that compensates for angular and linear movement with built-in technology. At f/2.8, the seven-bladed circular aperture creates attractive bokeh, while the quiet focusing of the STM focus motor is advantageous for capturing movies without distracting noise. The EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STMwill be available from May 2017. Prices will be set at dealer discretion. For more information, visit www.canon.com.au.
