Covering a 5.3x zoom range, this new lens covers focal lengths equivalent to 24.5mm to 130mm in 35mm format, making it suitable for photographing a wide variety of scenes and subjects. The optical design consists of 16 elements in 12 groups and includes one ED element and three high-grade aspherical elements to minimise spherical and chromatic aberrations and improve colour rendition. Its MTF is programmed to match the high-resolution image sensors in Pentax DSLRs and deliver high-resolution, detailed images. High-grade, multi-layer HD Coating allows higher light transmission and reduced reflections producing bright, high-contrast images free from flare and ghosting.

This lens is also weather and dust resistant, with eight special seals to prevent water from entering the lens interior. It makes an ideal partner for a weather-resistant digital SLR camera body.  The Pentax-developed Quick-Shift Focus system allows the user to instantly switch to manual-focus operation after the subject is captured in focus by the camera’s AF system. SP (Super Protect) Coating is applied to the front surface of the lens to repel water and grease. Rounded diaphragm blades produce a smooth bokeh effect; while minimising the streaking effect from point light sources. This lens also provides smooth, quiet autofocus operation, driven by the built-in DC motor.
The HD Pentax DA 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 ED DC WR lens is distributed in Australia by C.R. Kennedy and Company. For more information, visit http://www.pentax.com.au/.
