June 14, 2011: Panasonic has unveiled a new Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH. lens for its Lumix G Micro System cameras.
Covering an equivalent focal length to 50mm on a 35mm camera, the new lens is compact and lightweight and features a fast f/1.4 maximum aperture, making it ideal for use in low-light conditions and where defocused backgrounds are desired. Containing nine elements in seven groups, the optical system includes two aspherical and one UHR (Ultra High Refractive) index elements. Nano Surface Coating technology is used to minimise reflections across the entire visual light range (380nm-780nm) dramatically reducing flare and ghosting.
Seven blades give the aperture a rounded shape that produces an attractively smooth effect in out-of-focus areas when shooting at larger aperture settings. The highly reliable metal mount is designed for durability when changing the lens.
The lens will be available in Australia later in 2011. Pricing will be announced closer to the release date. For more information phone Panasonic on 132 600 or visit www.panasonic.com.au/lumix.
