Both models include flip-up monitor screens for shooting ‘selfies’ and each is equipped with Exmor R CMOS sensor with 18.2 megapixels and BIONZ X processor. The Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 30x zoom lens is also common to both models. The HX90V features a pop-up OLED Tru-Finder and a Control Ring that can be customised to operate functions such as manual focusing or step zoom. A new ergonomic grip provides comfortable handling in any situation. The WX500 requires shots to be framed on the monitor screen. The Cyber-shot HX90V adds GPS functionality for automatically tagging still shots and movie clips with location information that can be viewed on a map via PlayMemories Home.

Five-axis image stabilisation is included in both models and the 910,000-dot monitor can be used for retouching shots with the camera’s built-in Photo Creativity and Beauty Effect functions. both models include a similar  Fast Intelligent AF system to Sony’s ?7 series cameras. An improved spatial object detection algorithm realises a more optimal and accurate lens drive to make autofocusing fast.

Both cameras support Full HD 60p/50p recording using the XAVC S format at 50Mbps. P/A/S/M shooting modes provide extra control over movie footage, while the Intelligent Active Mode with 5-axis image stabilisation steadies image wobbles when following moving subjects. Available in black, the optional LCJ-HWA body case with lens jacket and shoulder strap features a quality leather-style finish to protect either camera while offering a sure, stable grip.

The new Cyber-shot HX90V and WX500 high-zoom compact travel cameras from Sony will be available in Australia from June 2015 for AU$599 and AU$479 respectively (RRP). The LCJ-HWA body case is available for AU$69. For more information, visit www.sony.com.au.
