October 30, 2006: Epson has released two new Multimedia storage viewers, the P-3000 and P-5000 models, which feature the world’s first four-colour filter LCD in a portable display device.
Designed for photographers who require high-resolution viewing, maximum storage space and high speed data transfer of digital images and other files, the new models offer 24-bit true colour viewing. This significantly expands the visible viewing colour gamut with coverage 119% wider than S-RGB. Both models come with a 4.0-inch LCD screen with VGA resolution. They also offer PictBridge, USB, SD and CF card connectivity plus file transfer speeds that are up to 250% faster than previous models. Professional and advanced amateur photographers using cameras with large file formats will benefit from advanced raw file support, which allows the Epson P-3000 and P-5000 viewers to display raw images from many popular DSLR cameras. Other image file formats supported include JPEG, TIFF and Adobe DNG.
Both models can display JPEG images of up to 30 million pixels and the powerful CPU and display algorithm allow full frame images and thumbnails to be viewed significantly faster. Up to 64 thumbnail images can be displayed per screen, allowing photographers to find specific images easily. Close-up viewing and focus checking is simple with a one touch zoom key. Users can also store and view A/V files, with support for MP3, AAC and WMA audio; and video playback for MPEG 1, 2 and 4, Motion JPG, DivX and WMV.

The Epson P-3000 Multimedia Storage Viewer has a 40 GB hard drive and sells for $899, while the 80 GB P-5000 RRP is priced at $1199 including GST. Both models are supplied with Epson Link2 software, which allows easy organisation and transfer of media files between the viewer and a computer, as well as a convenient back up feature to secure new data.
