November 19, 2010: The CompactFlash Association (CFA) has introduced a new CF 6.0 specification for flash memory cards and also unveiled a new logo and refreshed website.
The CF 6.0 specification adds performance and functionality to the current CF 5.0 specification based on the PATA (Parallel ATA) interface while maintaining backward compatibility. Feature enhancements include compatibility with the Ultra DMA Mode 7 which supports a 167 MB/second transfer speed, a significant improvement o nthe surrent fastest speed of 90MB/second. A new Sanitize Command provides an efficient NAND Block Erase of the entire user data area to return the CF card to “fresh” state before reuse or repurposing. Trim Usage Guidelines provide improved write performance consistency.
The new specification also provides an optional card capability for reporting the operating temperature range of the card. This allows card/camera combinations to be used in extreme temperatures. In conjunction with this new specification, CFA has completed a refresh to both the CFA logo and website allowing for improved navigation, future product and market application information along with enhanced member benefits.
