Designed for Fujifilm’s medium format GFX 50S camera, the new Fujinon GF45mm f/2.8 R WR lens is a compact and lightweight moderate wide angle lens with a focal length equivalent to 36mm (on a 35mm format) and a weight of just 490 grams. The fast f/2.8 maximum aperture makes it ideal for street and documentary photography. The new lens is weather and dust resistant, and can be used in temperatures as low as -10 °C. Its optical design consists of 11 elements in eight groups and includes one aspherical lens and two ED lenses as well as Nano GI coating to suppress ghosting and flare.
The internal focusing system moves six lenses without causing the front element to rotate or the lens barrel to extend. The aperture ring has a C position (command dial mode) on the camera body that allows the lens aperture value to be changed to suit the photographer’s preference. A locking mechanism has been added to the A (Auto) and C positions to prevent unintended movements of the aperture dial. The Fujinon GF45mm f/2.8 R WR lens is due to go on sale in November at an RRP of AU$2699.
Fujifilm’s updated lens roadmap for the GFX 50S camera. (Source: Fujifilm.)
Fujifilm has updated its G Mount lens roadmap with the addition of a new telephoto prime lens and a 1.4x teleconverter. The GF250mm f/4 R LM OIS WR lens covers a 35mm equivalent focal length of 198mm and its f/4 maximum aperture makes it ideal for portraiture, although it can also be used for other genres. Compatible with this lens is the new GF1.4X TC WR teleconverter lens, which will extend the effective focal length to 350mm (equivalent to 277mm in 35mm format). Availability and pricing for these new lenses will be announced closer to their release dates.
Also announced today is the development of a new RAW conversion system that will be known as FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO. Compatible with Windows and Mac computers, it is designed for when a camera is connected to a computer and uses the X Processor Pro in the camera instead of the CPU in the computer to ensure maximum image quality. As well as converting RAW images on the computer (Single / Batch process), users will be able to preview converting images, and save, load or copy conversion files. RAW conversion is compatible with a RAW file taken by the same model as the connected camera. FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO can be downloaded from the company’s website (www.fujifilm.com.au) for free.
