The new 580EX Speedlite uses E-TTL II evaluative flash metering, which uses lens distance and pre-flash information from the camera to balance flash with ambient light. This system produces more evenly lit and natural looking photos – even if the subject includes highly reflective objects. Expected to sell for $799, the 580EX Speedlite can use the auto zoom and colour temperature data from certain DSLR cameras to improve flash exposures. It also supports wireless flash with multiple Speedlites, via a built-in slave and transmitter.
