November 2003: The first 5-megapixel camera to emerge from the union of Konica and Minolta, the DiMAGE G500, is due for release next month at an expected retail price of $999.
This new digicam bears striking similarities to Konica’s KD-510 Zoom model and features a 3x zoom lens with aspheric elements that has a focal length equivalent to 39-117mm on a 35mm camera. Packaged in a sturdy metal case with sliding lens cover, the DiMAGE G500 is easily slipped into a pocket or bag and weighs only 200g, making it ideal for travellers. It has a dual card slot that accepts both Memory Sticks and SD cards, which can be used singly or in combination and image files can be transferred from one card to the other.
A wide range of manual controls is supported, including manual exposure determination, saturation, contrast and sharpness adjustments and colour balancing. Shutter speeds range from 15 seconds to 1/2000 sec and centre-weighted and spot metering are supported. The built-in multi-mode flash covers distances from 50 cm to 3.5 metres and the self-timer supports three- and 10-second delay times. For details of stockists, contact wisem@hagemeyer.com.au.
