The State Library of NSW is hosting a display of prints from the Macpherson family collection of negatives taken in late 19th and early 20th century Sydney.

Beach scene, with man in bowler hat and tram on horizon, Bondi, c 1900. One of the images on display at the State Library of NSW.

Curated by Margot Riley, the recently acquired collection spans a 50-year period and includes more than 70 images, among them prints from original glass plates.

The photographs capture Sydney in transition through the eyes of  one Australian family. This is the first time they are on public display.

The exhibition runs from Saturday 6 October 2018 to Sunday 5 May 2019 and is free of charge.
