March 13, 2006: Local distributor, Maxwell Optical Industries, is expecting deliveries of the new Mamiya ZD medium format digital camera very soon.
Hailed as the world’s first integrated medium format digital camera, the Mamiya ZD features a 21.3-megapixel Dalsa 48 x 36mm CCD sensor, which captures images in 12-bit-per-channel colour, providing smooth tonal transitions and subtle nuances in hues. A dedicated ASIC image processor optimises the image data in real time, delivering 35 MB RAW files or JPEG images with a resolution of 5328 x 4000 pixels. The ZD sports a 1.8-inch TFT monitor for reviewing images plus a second LCD screen that displays camera information (aperture and shutter speed settings, etc.) and dual card slots are provided for CF and SD cards.
The Mamiya ZD is the only digital camera with a removable Low Pass Filter. This allows photographers to shoot infrared images with the full IR waveband. The camera’s body is made from die-cast aluminium with a magnesium alloy cover over the prism and electronic circuitry around the viewfinder. A durable, all-metal vertical-travel focal plane shutter gives the ZD the ability to shoot at up to 1/4000 second and offer a top flash synch speed of 1/125 second. Continuous shooting at 1.2 fps for up to 10 shots is provided.
A full spectrum of controls is offered, including four metering modes, three focus modes, three-point AF area selection, P, A, S and M shooting modes, an X-synch setting for flash photography, auto bracketing and +/- 3EV of exposure compensation in 1/3 step increments. The Mamiya ZD can support complete TTL flash control with the Metz 3002 flash system and an SCA 3952 Adapter. Other functions include depth-of-field preview, a mirror-up shooting setting, viewfinder diopter adjustment of -2.5 to +0.5 and an eyepiece shutter. Interchangeable focusing screens are available and the camera can be operated either alone of tethered to a PC.
The new ZD model is compatible with 10 Mamiya lenses as well as close-up and remote control equipment. Expected selling price for the camera body is around $22,000. For full details, phone Paul Gibbs at Maxwell Optical Industries on (02) 8748 5215 or visit www.maxwell.com.au.
