January 7, 2006: Lexar Media’s new Platinum II memory cards, which were unveiled at 2006 Consumer Electronics Show, have been designed to provide higher performance to support sustained rapid-fire shooting and full motion video with digital cameras. The new Platinum II range covers CompactFlash, Secure Digital and Memory Stick Pro and Memory Stick Pro Duo flash memory cards and are ideal for users who need their cameras to write captured information to the card without interruption. The Platinum II CompactFlash memory card is speed-rated at 80X, capable of a minimum sustained write speed of 12MBs per second, while the Platinum II Secure Digital memory card is speed-rated at 60X, capable of a minimum sustained write speed of 9MBs per second. In other related news, Lexar Media has developed a line of high-performance memory cards that will carry the Kodak brand and be marketed by both companies. Initially available in SD (Secure Digital) format, Kodak High Performance cards are targeted at users of all SD format digital cameras with still and video capture capabilities. The new cards claim to reduce the lag time between shots and optimise full-motion video capture capability on some cameras. Initial releases will be in 512MB and 1GB capacities with higher capacity cards appearing later this year. Lexar Media has also signed an agreement that will see it packaging Corel image editing software with certain memory cards. Starting early this year, Paint Shop Photo Album 6 Starter Edition will be bundled with Lexar’s Value line of cards, while the company’s Platinum line will include Paint Shop Photo Album 6 (Standard Edition). Lexar’s Professional memory cards will be supplied with Paint Shop Pro 9. |
