May 1, 2007: Lexar media has released details of its new ExpressCard SSD, high-capacity removable solid state drive (SSD) that promises the ability to deliver high-performance, lower-cost modular expansion for notebook computers.
Roughly half the size of current PC Card solutions, the Lexar ExpressCard SSD is supplied with auto-backup software for protecting laptop computer files and data. Users can select automatic regular (daily, weekly, or monthly) backup without further intervention after the initial setup. During this setup, the user will be able to set the folder and specific file types to be included or excluded from the backup process. This automatic backup software can also support multiple computers by recognising the computer name and the appropriate backup setting for each computer.
The Lexar ExpressCard SSD is enhanced for use with ReadyBoost, a Windows Vista feature that improves system performance without having to add DRAM to computers. It can serve as an additional memory cache and supports a direct connection to the chipset. This lets users enjoy all of its capabilities without having to unplug the card after every use by simply keeping the ExpressCard SSD in the slot as external storage.
Lexar ExpressCard SSD is now available from Officeworks, Myer, Harvey Norman and other major retailers in Australia in 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB capacities. The suggested retail price for 4GB capacity is $199.95, 8GB is $329.95, and 16GB is $549.95 (all including GST).
