July 4, 2006: An exhibition of photographs by Lewis Morley, one of the leading portrait photographers of the ø¢â‚¬Ëœ60s, opens at the Art Gallery of NSW in Sydney tomorrow.

Trained as an artist and self taught as a photographer, Morley, whose work covers a range of photography from portraiture to theatre, reportage to fashion, established his reputation with reportage work for Tatler magazine in London. He took the first fashion shots of Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton and is famous for a portrait of Christine Keeler, which is now one of the most iconic images of the 20th century. As a theatre photographer, Morley photographed productions with stars like Michael Caine, Trevor Howard, John Hurt, Albert Finney, Maggie Smith and many others including satirical productions from Beyond the fringe to That was the week that was. Morley is in his 81st year and his photographic career continues most especially in reportage and with recent portraits of Tracey Emin and Beth Orton.

The exhibition will remain open until 10 September. Entry price is $6 for adults or $4 for concessions. Full details can be found at http://www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/exhibitions/coming/lewis_morley?clicked_date=2006-07-05.
