June 22, 2011: Leica has released details of its smallest, full-format, digital system camera, the Leica M9-P, along with a new high-performance wide-angle lens.
Claimed as the world’s smallest, full-format, digital system camera, the M9-P has been designed for professional photographers who demand compact and discreet camera equipment. Measuring 139 x 37 x 80 mm and weighing only 585 grams with battery, the M9-P has a die cast magnesium body and comes in silver chrome or black finish.

Aside from that, the Leica M9-P and the M9 offer the same performance characteristics and exactly the same advantages. However, the M9-P features an extremely scratch-resistant, sapphire crystal, cover for its LCD monitor, which is almost unbreakable. An anti-reflective coating on both sides of the cover improves image reviewing on the screen in unfavourable lighting conditions. The leather trims on the body are also more resistant to wear. The Leica M9-P is now available in from all authorised Leica dealers for an RRP of $9,599 (inc GST).
Leica’s new Super-Elmar-M 21 mm f/3.4 ASPH. lens is characterised by its compact size and its suitability for a wide range of photographic situations. Its performance characteristics are similar to the popular Leica Super-Angulon-M 21 mm f/3.4 lens. Constructed with eight lenses in seven groups, it includes one lens element with two aspherical surfaces and four lenses with anomalous partial dispersion to reduce aberrations to an absolute minimum.

The Super-Elmar-M 21 mm f/3.4 ASPH. is supplied with a high-quality, all-metal lens hood, which protects the lens effectively against reduction of contrast by extraneous light and also against damage and the accumulation of dirt on the front element. For this reason, it should always remain mounted whenever the lens and camera are in use. Available from authorised Leica Dealers the new lens sells for RRP $3,549 (inc. GST.)
