April 21, 2010: Leica has released details of its new V-Lux 20 digital camera, which is essentially a Leica-badged version of the Panasonic DMC-TZ10.
It has the same 14.5-megapixel 6.23 x 4.64 mm CCD sensor, which provides an effective resolution of 12.1 megapixels, and the same Leica DC Vario-Elmar 4.1-49.2mm f/3.3-4.9 ASPH lens, which supports 12x optical zoom. Flexible use of the sensor format guarantees full exploitation of the entire zoom range (35-mm equivalent: 25-300 mm) in all possible image aspect ratios, whether set for 4:3, 3:2, or 16:9.

Key features of the V-Lux 20 are identical to its Panasonic sibling. Both cameras have built-in GPS functions that enable images and video clips to be automatically tagged with location data. They also provide P, A, S, and M shooting modes and support 720p HD video recording using the M-JPEG HD format. Aside from branding, the main differences between them are in the bundled accessories. The V-Lux 20 comes with Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0. The V-Lux 20 will be available from specialised Leica dealers in Australia from the end of April at an RRP of $899.
