Leica Camera has announced three next-generation models of the Leica M Summicron-M 35 mm f/2 ASPH., Leica Summicron-M 28 mm f/2 ASPH. and Leica Elmarit-M 28 mm f/2.8 ASPH. lenses with improved performance profiles.

The new lenses feature optimised optical designs and more robust lens construction and are supplied with a full-metal rectangular lens hood with a thread mount and a threaded protection ring for the front the lens when the hood is not attached. The lens cap is now also made of metal. All three lenses are made in Germany.
The Summicron-M 35 mm f/2 ASPH. fast classic prime lens with compact dimensions. An eleven-blade iris diaphragm creates a circular aperture for attractive bokeh, high contrast, almost complete freedom from distortion. This lens will be offered in black and silver at an RRP N of AU$4550. It is due to go on sale in February.
High performance and speed are also characteristic features of the Summicron-M 28 mm f/2 ASPH. wide-angle lens, which is due for release in late January at an RRP of AU$5700. Also scheduled for release in January is the Elmarit-M 28 mm f/2.8 ASPH. With an RRP of AU$3100, this lens is the most compact in the entire portfolio of Leica M-Lenses. It is practically distortion free from infinity to its closest focusing distance of 0.7 metres and barely occludes the view through the viewfinder of Leica M cameras.
