July 3, 2006: Waverley Council in Sydney is offering a new course in rock photography as part of its Bondi Wave music course for young people in the area.
Now in its 22nd year, the Bondi Wave course is the only one of its kind in which top

industry professionals and musicians tutor the students in all aspects of music making. It runs over three months from June to August at the Bondi Pavilion Community Cultural Centre. The new Rock Photography workshop will run over three nights from 3-5 August under the direction of freelance rock photographer, Jason McCormack. Sessions start at 9 pm and extend for three hours and participants explore the creative and practical processes involved in photographing both live performance and stills for publicity.
The course will reveal the reality of being a rock photographer, who owns the photos, who holds copyright and the ins and outs of photo agencies. It will also demonstrate practical ways to get good shots from talent, framing techniques and camera usage. A session will be spent at the Soundhouse’s Vector lab editing pre-shot and concert footage using latest technologies. Students will gain first hand experience as a “rock photographer” on the final night of the course at the Bondi Wave Concert.
All participants must provide their own digital camera and related equipment. The fee for the course is $120. For more information, phone Joanna Dinning or Kerry Digby on (02) 8362 3400.
